The Gloucester Farmers Market began in 2011 as part of The Gloucester Project, an initiative aimed at fostering self-sustaining communities. The farmers market was a natural extension of this vision, providing a space for regional growers and producers to sell their fresh produce directly to the community.
In early 2019, MidCoast Council issued an Expression of Interest for a community group to manage the markets. The Gloucester Business Chamber saw this as an excellent opportunity to continue supporting the local community and fostering economic, cultural, and social benefits. As successful applicants, the Chamber now runs the market, ensuring its growth and preservation as a true traditional country farmers market.
The markets feature locally grown fruits and vegetables, baked goods, cheeses, olive oils, fresh flowers, and a diverse selection of artisan products. They have become an important community event, bringing people together each month. The Gloucester Farmers Market continues to attract a loyal following, drawing visitors from the coast and surrounding regions every second Saturday of the month.
